Stormont Debate Sparks Renewed Momentum for Hill Street Pedestrianisation

After years of disappointment around the pedestrianisation of Hill St, one of the busiest streets in the city, it seems that progress is in the air! Cathedral Quarter BID Manager Mr Damien Corr says that following a debate at Stormont on the evening of 6 th may, DFI Minister Liz Kimmins has given an undertaking to have “an agreed scheme in place that has gone through the legislative processes by the autumn” .

There was cross-party agreement for the motion put forward by the leader of the opposition Matthew O’Toole MLA. Mr Corr said that after years of lobbying on the matter he was delighted at the outcome and thanked Mr O’Toole, Philip Brett MLA and Belfast City Night Czar Michael Stewart for their support in the matter. He added that he is confident that Minister Kimmins is committed to delivery and gave the assurance that Cathedral Quarter BID will continue to hold the departments feet to the fire and is looking forward to working with DFI officials to finally get the initiative across the line.
